How Can You Speed Up Your WordPress Website?

Carl Taylor | July 9, 2014

A common question I’m often asked is, “I have websites running WordPress, how do I speed them up?”

There are a number of reasons why you want to fast a website.

3 Reasons To Speed Up a WordPress Website

1. Faster Websites Give a Better User Experience

When visitors land on your site, they prefer it o load really snappy on all devices. On mobiles, on tablets, and on their computers.

This gives a better feel and experience to the end user, which will increase the chance of them sticking around and browsing the site.

2. It  Helps Increase Your Search Rankings

Google really loves the speed of your website. The speed of your site to load, is one of the things that is taken into account by Google to determine where you should rank amongst all the other sites in search.

3. Faster Loading Sites Increase Conversion

Apart from the SEO benefits and user experience. Testing has shown that faster loading sites will increase conversion. So that means more money for your business! A faster website can help you get more opt-ins and more people buying and taking the actions you want online.

Two Strategies To Speed Up Your WordPress Site

1. Use CDN or a Caching System

You need to be utilising an optimised WordPress Host Provider (we provide this for our clients if you work with us) and you need to be using what is known as CDN or a caching system.

Personally here at Automation Agency use for most of our clients and in all of our websites. A specialised wordpress hosting company called WPEngine which is designed specifically for delivering wordpress websites fast, secure and reliably. It is completely optimised for speed and security.

2. Cloud Flare

The second strategy we use is a service called Cloud Flare. Cloud Flare sits over the top of a website host and caches it, and then puts it through a CDN also known as a Content Distribution Network.

What that means is that all your website visitors from around the world when they visit the website will be delivered the page and everything on that page from the closest server to them (which means a faster load speed)

What To Keep In Mind?

OK, these are just two strategies (there are even more) that if you want to speed up your WordPress website (and you should) that we use for all our clients.

In summary… Change your hosting to an optimised host someone like WPEngine and then organise a CDN service which WPEngine and Cloud  Flare both have. Then you can do what we do and you can layer both on top of each other.

Or if you get a new lead generation website built through us, we’ll take care of all this for you.
