The biggest mistake I see so many people make, and I’ll tell you about a client of mine in a moment, they go to a seminar or they go and see someone to talk to them about online marketing. And what they hear is, “You really need to give something away for free, the download, an opt-in, a lead magnet of some kind and you should write an e-book!”.
Why Ebooks Don’t Work!
The problem with an E-book is most business owners haven’t actually thought about their ideal client and what they want.
I spent a day with a client of mine doing our accelerator implementation day and what happened is I asked him “What’s going to be your lead magnet?” And he goes, “an e-book” I’m going write a 15-page e-book.
I said great! Tell me about your ideal client.
And he starts explaining to me this ideal client… “it’s a busy CEO…”, As soon as he said that and I said “STOP!! A busy CEO, does he want to download an ebook?”
You see he hadn’t thought about if his market actually wanted to spend hours or even just a few minutes reading something. He hadn’t realised that his ideal client just wants the answer. He wants to request a call or just to pick up the phone and know the answer immediately.

So, you really need to understand your ideal client and that’s how you determine what your best lead magnet is. The strategy is so important, not just the creation. And it’s going save you a lot of time as well.

So there’s a whole bunch of different ways you can create a lead magnet without writing an e-book. So my biggest tip to you is “Don’t write an e-book until you really know about your ideal client and what they want, and how you can solve their problems instantly. So they just say I want that. Low risk, low time, low money, and it’s just easy.
